Three generations. One standard.

Fanneran & Sons is a family-run London business with more than forty years of experience in decorating, fitted carpentry and home improvements. The name is literal — it is a family firm, and the people who quote your job are the people who turn up to do it.

That matters more than it sounds. A great deal of what goes wrong in this trade happens because the person who priced the work never sees it, and the person doing the work was never told what was promised. We have never operated that way, and at our size we never need to.

What we actually do

Decorating is the core of the business — painting, wallpapering, preparation and finishing. Around that we have built up the trades that decorating usually has to wait for: flooring, wall panelling, alcove joinery, media walls, skirting and architrave, decorative plaster finishes, and garden joinery.

Keeping those in-house is a deliberate choice. It means a room can be panelled and then decorated by the same people, on a schedule that makes sense, with nobody arriving to find the previous trade left them a problem. It is also why we can take on a whole house rather than just a room.

How we price

We come and look. Not because we enjoy the drive, but because the condition of the walls, the state of the woodwork and how much preparation a room genuinely needs are the things that decide the price, and none of them can be assessed over the phone.

Quotes are itemised and in writing, and they say what is included. If we think something might turn out worse once we open it up — damp behind a skirting, a subfloor that will need work — we tell you before you commit rather than presenting it as an extra halfway through.

What we will tell you honestly

If a cheaper approach would get you most of the result, we will say so. If a finish you have seen online will not suit your room, or will not last in a hallway with three children and a dog, we will say that too. We would rather do a smaller job well and be called back than sell you something that disappoints.

And if a job is not for us — wrong trade, wrong scale, too far outside our area — we will tell you that at the first conversation rather than the third.

Insurance and practicalities

We carry public liability insurance and will provide the details before work starts. Floors and furniture are properly protected, sites are cleaned at the end of each day, and we work around you if you are living in the house while the job runs.
