Engineered wood, laminate, LVT and herringbone — laid on a subfloor that was actually prepared for it.
Nearly every flooring complaint traces back to the same two causes: a subfloor that was not flat enough, and a floor that was not allowed to acclimatise before it was laid. Both are avoidable, and both are invisible once the boards are down — which is exactly why they get skipped.
We install engineered wood, laminate, LVT and click-system floors across London homes, including herringbone and chevron layouts where the set-out has to be right from the first board or the error compounds across the whole room. Before laying, we check levels, address deflection and movement, and put down the correct underlay or membrane for the subfloor and the room.
The perimeter detailing is what people notice afterwards. Consistent expansion gaps hidden under scribed skirting or good-quality beading, neat thresholds between rooms, and clean cuts around door frames, pipework and hearths — these are the details that separate a floor that looks fitted from one that looks laid.

Do I need to remove my skirting boards?
Not necessarily. Beading over the expansion gap is quicker and cheaper. Removing and refitting the skirting so it sits over the floor gives a noticeably cleaner line, and if the room is being decorated anyway it is often the better choice. We will price both.
How long does flooring need to acclimatise?
Most engineered wood needs 48 to 72 hours in the room it will be installed in, at normal living temperature and humidity. Skipping this is the most common cause of gapping and cupping a few months later. We plan delivery around it.
Can you lay flooring over underfloor heating?
Yes, with the right product. Engineered wood and LVT are generally suitable; solid wood usually is not. There is a commissioning and warm-up procedure to follow before and after installation, and we will walk you through it.
Is herringbone much more expensive to fit?
It takes longer, so yes — typically a meaningful uplift on labour over a standard plank layout, plus more waste on the material. The set-out and the border cuts are where the extra time goes.
Can you remove and dispose of my old floor?
Yes. Lifting, disposal and preparing the subfloor underneath can all be included in the quote.
